Prasad leads the core team at Dr. Reddy’s, contributing significantly to its transformation from a mid-size domestic operation to a global pharmaceutical conglomerate. After taking over as the CEO in 1990, he has steered the company on a path of continuous growth — from $50 million to $2.5 billion in revenue. He has led the company’s global expansion, especially in developed markets, through organic and inorganic moves.
Through emphasis on research, innovation, transparency, business ethics and leaner corporate structures, Prasad has helped shape Dr. Reddy’s into an organisation of global repute, recognised industry-wide for scientific innovation, progressive people practices and high standards of corporate governance. He is driving the necessary imperatives for Dr. Reddy’s to engage even more deeply with the human aspects of health.
A firm believer in sustainable manufacturing and business practices, Prasad leads the company’s sustainability initiatives including the adoption of green technologies and processes. Today, environmental goals are built into operational approaches, reducing our ecological footprint. As a sustainability advocate, Prasad is involved with the World Wildlife Fund (AP and Telangana chapter), Wildlife Trust of India and other conservation-oriented organisations.
Along with his responsibilities as Co-Chairman and MD, Prasad is dedicated to causes he champions. He is a board member of the Indian School of Business and Ashoka University, and has previously served on the boards of IIT Hyderabad and Sri Venkateswara University, technology company Cyient and the nonprofit Acumen Fund. He is the Chairman of the CII National Committee on Pharmaceuticals (2020-21) and has previously been the Chairman of the CII National Committee on Environment and the Intellectual Property Committee (2006–07). Prasad also serves as the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Belgium in Hyderabad.
As a leader, Prasad is widely recognised. In 2021, he was on The Medicine Maker’s Power List as one of the top 20 leaders for the second consecutive year. He was also a Regional Honoree at the 2020 YPO Global Impact Award. In 2019, he was conferred the V. Krishnamurthy Award for
Excellence by the Centre for Organizational Development and named The Boundary Breaker at the CEO Awards in 2018.
