Acquisitions are key to a growing business, but they need time, patience and focus to complete seamlessly. The team that’s neck-deep in the process, dealing with the details, must be driven by the end result — integrating the new business into the existing company without snags. It was precisely this result-driven approach that enabled our quality assurance team to enable smooth assimilation of a new acquisition recently.
The team had to qualify 136 SKUs across multiple locations, including third-party sites, which was a mammoth task conducted over several months. To keep track of progress and to maintain a reliable record, they prepared a due diligence tracker, or an exhaustive list that included information such as specifications, STPs, stability data, quality reviews, quality notifications, etc.
“Our main intention was to qualify the products with respect to process validation and robustness,” says Y Sridevi, Head – EMQA, Quality Assurance. They also carefully studied the quality agreements of all 32 sites, as well as the annual product review of the 136 units based on key parameters for evaluation. “We devised a day-wise tracking system and diligently updated our records as well as sent everything to the former business owner.”
However, getting documents from various partners was challenging, especially those that had not been evaluated previously. Documents would be resent repeatedly or provided in big bunches, which made the task at hand tedious and sometimes overwhelming. “But we made sure to not throw data around,” says Sridevi. “We did several rounds of reviews and tracked every detail meticulously.”
Once the reviews were done, comments were evaluated and discussed with the former business owner’s team. Any gaps needed to be addressed, and a cost assessment was developed. “It wasn’t easy; we would share all our observations and then convince the partners to address the issues,” Sridevi says. In the end, though, the Dr. Reddy’s team ensured all gaps were cleared, resulting in millions in savings.
Efforts are meaningless without achieving results. We work hard to ensure our actions have favourable outcomes.
