Aiming high without fear of failure

The growth of any business begins with the mindset — where we want to see ourselves in the future and the kind of legacy we want to build. Our mindset? Aim big. We do that by identifying unique opportunities and going forward with purpose, without being held back by fear of failure.

Let us give you an example. One of the ways by which we bring affordable medicines within reach of billions of people around the world is producing over-the-counter medicines for everyday maladies like pain, allergies, digestion issues, and so on. So, when the USFDA greenlit a well-known pain relief gel and an antihistamine eye drop to be available as over-the-counter medications, we decided to make a move. It was an opportunity to be the first company to launch store brand versions of both drugs in the US market.

But it was an open call, which meant competition was fierce. Our respective teams got working and within weeks, finalised key partnerships to get the product to market as quickly as possible. There were challenges, of course. Would we get regulatory approval in time? It’s a lengthy process, but the teams were confident that they’d get it, so they went ahead with putting mechanisms in place so that they don’t lose valuable time once approvals come in. At this time, countries around the world were reeling under lockdowns, creating logistical problems of various kinds. New vendors were identified for packaging materials, special batches were produced. A range of audits were also in the works since one of the products was the first of its kind to be produced by Dr. Reddy’s.

Instead of letting the enormity of the task overwhelm them, the team focused on achieving the goal. Their hard work was rewarded when they got all the approvals on time. Within a few months, over-the-counter versions of both drugs were launched, beating competition by miles and netting millions in sales right at the outset.

We aspire to fulfil our ambitions, small or big. It’s how we grow bigger and better every day.
